Main Task Initial Ideas

Station Name
‘Humberside FM’ has been selected for this project because it is simple and straight to the point for the people who we are trying to reach (residents of the Humberside Region). The station is designed to be relatively serious, which means other names such as ‘Alan FM’ really wouldn’t be appropriate for this sort of broadcast.

Primary Age Range
A 25-40 Year Old range has been decided because there are a wide variety of listeners that we can appeal to. This can include people commuting to and from the workplace as well as parents doing thing such as the school run or shopping. majority of the listeners will be of that age while they are driving to work, shops etc.

Bulletin Name
Humberside News with Sam Needham, sponsored by Macdonald’s Bakery, the best bakery North of the River Humber!

Target Audience
Demographics: The demographics of the target audience will be the average working person who may work in a Primary, Secondary or Tertiary Industry. They most commonly listen to the radio during the commuting times and when going to do daily jobs (such as the school run, shopping, etc.)...

Psychographics: The psychographics of the target audience will be in the psychographic group reformers. Reformers tend to have independent judgement and like to gain knowledge. Reformers also are usually not materialistic and select brands based on quality and support growth of new product categories. Another target audience psychographic group would be the succeeders which are the type that have a strong orientation to reaching their goals and have confidence in themselves. Furthermore succeeders support status quo, work ethically and stability.

Socio-economic Groups: The socio-economic group of the target audience will be an average middle class working person. This person will have an above average wage, a decent car, a decent house and lives in a good area. The stories used in Humberside FM will appeal to this group because they are the type of story that would be relatable to this group.

Geodemographics: The Geodemographics that Humberside FM will focus on is the Humberside region itself. This area was selected due to the fact that there isn’t a massive amount of different radio stations that focus in this area. Where in Lincolnshire, you have BBC Radio Lincolnshire and Lincs FM; there are no real oppositions to BBC Radio Humberside (other than Viking FM, but that also focuses in the Yorkshire region).
