Group Self Assessment

The key strengths that were identified on the Peer Feedback were that first of all, the presenters sounded professional with their voice and tone. Furthermore, the News is appealing to the target audience and someone said that the language register and pronunciation from the presenter is good, formal and effective. The Ident for the weather update sounds appropriate and professional. The next group of peers that gave feedback said that we had a good use of music at the start of the jingle. Additionally, they said we had a good use of vox pops because they were clear and that the traffic report was very informative towards the drivers. They also said the weather report was good because it had its own Ident.

One of the areas we need to improve in is removing the background noise in some of the recordings. This will mean we will either have to re-record or cut out the parts with background noise, this is not a big issue because it is only at the start of the recording. Another thing we need to improve on is is adding indent to introduce the traffic report and the vox pops, it won’t take long to record indents on a dictaphone then edit them into the bulletin. As well as this, another thing we need to improve on is the reporter reading the lines a bit slower so it's easier to hear, we will do this by re-recording some parts not as fast as they are before.

Overall, we feel at this stage that the project has been relatively successful, and has not had too many issues throughout the production period. It’s felt that the news stories themselves are engaging, and we feel that the structure very much resembles a typical Radio News Bulletin on Commercial Radio. However, we must spend time attempting to develop the project, which includes the things mentioned above, such as the re-recording of some sections to remove background noise and make the components of the Bulletin more audibly pleasing. We also personally feel it is appropriate to add some form of sound bed to the production to act as a ‘filling’ to the broadcast, and make it feel a little more complete and well-polished. It also may assist us in the fact that very quiet background noises may not be noticeable anymore, meaning that we may not have to re-record quite so many parts.
